Savannah, Georgia
Savannah, Georgia
Savannah, Georgia, is where history haunts and charm drips from every moss-covered branch. Come for the famed squares, stay for the sweet tea and spirited stories (some with actual spirits).
By Caitlin Howle
The Historic District of Savannah is a destination in itself, with museums, mansions, world-famous landmarks, and yes, Spanish moss that's perfectly Instagrammable, And as long as your beverage is in a plastic cup (16 oz or smaller), you can legally sip and stroll, so feel free to turn your sightseeing into a cocktail crawl.
★ Pedal Pushers
Savannah has plenty of ways to indulge in its beauty, from classic Savannah Riverboat Cruises that glide along the waterfront to the breezy charm of Old Town Trolley Tours, perfect for taking in the sights without breaking a sweat (or a sandal). But if you're looking to add a little team spirit with a side of happy hour, here's an activity that'll definitely turn some heads: a double-sided, 15-person bicycle with a built-in bar. Groups can mix and match up to 117 people — ideal for parties, coworkers, or anyone who believes cardio should come with cocktails.

★ Southern Stroll
In the heart of downtown is Savannah City Market, which is nestled between the Franklin and Ellis Squares. Find quirky art from local artists, fresh bread, and southern pralines (try Savannah's Candy Kitchen). While you're there, visit the American Prohibition Museum, which is the only museum in the U.S. dedicated to the history of Prohibition.

Savannah serves up Southern food with serious flair. Try Vic's on the River for refined Southern cuisine with river views; The Shrimp Factory, set in an 1823 cotton mill, and The Grey, housed in a 1938 Greyhound bus terminal (book early!). For family-style Southern fare that feels like a warm hug, don't miss Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room. Just be ready to wait in line. For casual bites, Crystal Beer Parlor serves up pub fare and local brews in one of Savannah's oldest restaurants. To dive even deeper into the local flavor, book a Savannah Taste Experience Food Tour. Because this is a city that wants you to eat, and eat well.

★ Gallery Gallivant
If you're in the mood to trade sweet tea for a little culture (don't worry, you can go back to it after), start with the SCAD Museum of Art, a sleek, contemporary gem run by the Savannah College of Art and Design. This isn't your average college museum. It showcases exhibitions that change every academic quarter. And you haven't truly visited Savannah until you make your way to the Telfair Museums, which include three unique spaces: the Jepson Center (think contemporary art and interactive exhibits), the Telfair Academy (classic art in a historic mansion), and the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, which offers a powerful look at the city's past.

Savannah has long been called one of the “Most Haunted Cities in America” and features plenty of options to catch a spirit. To name a few: Ghosts & Gravestones Tour, Blue Orb Tours, Genteel & Bard's Savannah Dark History & Ghost Encounter, Hearse Ghost Ride Tours (this one takes you around town in a hearse with no roof!), Grave Encounters Trolley Tour by Old Savannah Tours, An Immersive Ghost Hunt by Kelly Tours (think Ghost Tour and Haunted House, they give it a PG-13 rating), Guy In The Kilt Savannah Ghost Tours and Pub Crawls (yes, he wears a kilt, we have confirmed), Sixth Sense Savannah Ghost Tour, The Savannah Underground, Gray Line Savannah, and that's not all. If you take a trip to Savannah and don't indulge in a ghost tour, then that's truly terrifying.
