Counter Intelligence
Like a foyer in a residential home, an exhibit reception desk, aka information counter, is the main meet-and-greet destination in your booth. As such it not only needs to welcome attendees to your world, but also must speak volumes about your brand. After all, these critical first impressions can either lure people in or repel them from your space. These six reception desks deliver the one-two punch of form and function. Pairing standard shapes with atypical elements, they deliver a TKO of exhibiting effectiveness.

Calm Amid the Storm
Exhibitor: Advent Inc. Show: Exhibitor Show Design: Advent Inc., Houston, 713-462-8347, www.adventfirm.com When the show floor is shouting, a little whisper may be exactly what you need to get noticed. This quiet reception desk from exhibit house Advent Inc. takes the cool, calm, and collected route — sporting little more than laminate and Plexiglas and featuring a soft glow. Clever Camo
Exhibitor: Apartment 91 Show: EuroShop Design: Apartment 91, Stuttgart, Germany, 49-711-61-51-506, www.apartment91.com Sometimes the best reception desks almost disappear amid a similarly styled background. Clad with the same dark-stained wood as the floor and back and side walls, this desk blends in as opposed to standing out, a tactic that makes this 10-by-10 seem impressively cohesive. Switched On
Exhibitor: Zenaro Lighting GmbH Show: Lightfair International Design: Hwa Lin Design Co. Ltd., Taipei, Taiwan, 886-2-27062448, www.hwalin.com.tx It's amazing what a little internal lighting can do. Without its green glow, this desk is nothing but a gloomy gray rectangle. But flick the switch on the company's neon green lights, and voila, you've got an instant attention grabber, and a whole lot of drama. Freeze Frame
Exhibitor: Invent S.r.l. Show: International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show Design: Sturm und Plastic, Milan, 39-2-990-442-22, www.sturmundplastic.it If you're selling a machine that makes glassware out of ice, your reception desk had better be uber cool. Made to resemble a giant block of frozen H2O, and comprising plastic components from Sturm und Plastic, this chilly reception desk is nice, ice, baby. Tile Style
Exhibitor: Imex International Co. Ltd. Show: Architect Design: Imex International Co. Ltd., Bangkok, Thailand, 662-9104827-9, www.imexinter.com You might not think of reception desks as works of art. But you'll need to think again after one look at this desk from Imex International Co. Ltd. Crafted using the company's own tile and featuring contemporary hues and kick-plate lighting, this dynamic desk borders on sculpture. To the Point
Exhibitor: Findeisen GmbH Show: EuroShop Design: Findeisen GmbH, Ettlingen, Germany, 49-7243-7100-0, www.finett.de This reception desk succeeds where many graphics fail: It communicates the company's product offerings, "nadelvlies" (i.e., needle-punched carpet), in a glance. Clad in the same carpet and laminate as its surrounding environs, the desk focuses on Findeisen GmbH's offerings. |
