Booth in a Box
Made from two steel shipping containers, this $51,000 exhibit for Off On New Lighting GmbH was more industrial chic than industrial waste. While the horizontal structure displayed several products, a chandelier of LED tubes suspended from the vertical container acted as the focal point among the company's various eco-friendly fixtures. photos: Photoprop
The Container Store
hallenge the average designer to craft a booth out of shipping containers, and you'll likely end up with something far more industrial than urbane. Nico Ueberholz and Andre Fusser, however, aren't your average designers. Charged with creating just such a container-based display for Off On New Lighting GmbH, the designers at Ueberholz GmbH conjured a structure judges touted as "amazingly creative" and "a downright stellar design."Launched in November 2011, Off On New Lighting offers a sophisticated twist on fluorescent fixtures, namely eco-friendly LED tubes. Thus, the company wanted an intriguing structure to launch its wares at Light+Building 2012 and to serve as a road-show exhibit throughout the year. With a footprint of 28-by-10 feet, the resulting design comprised two steel cargo containers â?" a 16-by-10-foot structure positioned horizontally and a 10-by-10-foot construction arranged vertically. Bearing the Off On logo on the exterior, the vertical container featured billowing white drapes and a suspended chandelier featuring various lengths of the company's LED tubes. A table with an interactive touchscreen monitor allowed attendees to adjust the chandelier's intensity and observe accompanying changes in energy consumption. The horizontal container offered samples of Off On's products and various conversation areas. Four stools and a waist-high counter sat front and center, and a cabinet along the back provided ample storage. Promotional materials and beverages, which were handed out by street teams dressed in futuristic costumes, were also available. At show's end, the booth was prepped for shipment and hoisted atop a flatbed truck for transport to various events throughout the year. Given the booth's dual purpose and minimal $51,000 budget, you can bet that Off On reps could barely contain their enthusiasm. E |
