The Big Picture
Launched in 1950 in Cologne, Germany, Photokina almost instantly became one of the world's largest trade shows for the photographic and imaging industries. At the 1954 exposition, more than 400 companies from 13 countries showed off the latest innovations and products, such as exposure-value settings and the trendsetting Leica M3, depicted here in the form of an oversized prop. The biennial trade show, which still runs today in Cologne, draws close to 1,200 exhibitors and 185,000 visitors who come to see what's developing in the photography industry.
