Alcohol Service

Q.
In conjunction with our next exhibit, we're holding an off-site event with a hosted bar. How many drinks can I get out of various alcohol containers?A.
There are variables that will affect the following averages, including atypical bottle sizes and servers with inconsistent pouring tendencies. But generally speaking, you can use these averages to plan alcohol purchases for an event.► Wine – One bottle of wine typically yields four to five glasses, so you can generally figure one bottle for every two people. If you're planning a seated event, count on three bottles (usually two red and one white) for each table of eight.
► Tap Beer – If you're pouring traditional 12-ounce servings of tap beer, a 5-gallon keg will contain roughly 53 servings, a 7.75-gallon keg will run 82 servings, and a 15.5-gallon option will yield 164 servings.
► Hard Liquor – A standard shot of hard liquor is 1.5 ounces, and as such, you should get roughly 17 drinks out of a 750-milliliter bottle.
► Consumption – The average amount of alcohol people consume at an event varies depending on whether you or the attendee is picking up the tab. If you're hosting the bar, people tend to consume 2 to 2.5 drinks per hour. But if there's a cash bar, people typically only consume 1.5 drinks per hour. E
